iPhone tracking app?
Re: iPhone tracking app?
Soon after my lat post, my phone alerted me that it had gone into "low power mode" so stopped recording and quitted My Tracks.
8hrs odd.

That's pretty standard at 20%, you can stop it doing so in the settings. My older iPhone only has the option to disable the entire power saving mode, I think more recent ones can do it for specific apps.

Re: iPhone tracking app?
Perhaps this shows the benefit of something that only records the bare minimum you want. A sherbet-counting feature might have been the straw etc
Re: iPhone tracking app?
Yes, it does record "finely" but I think it might do a coarser trace. I doubt it would make much difference to the power consumption.
I'll have another play with the app and try again.
As for the warning at 20%, that's all it is - a notification warning. I could have ignored it, or turned the facility off. The main fact though, was the app ran for just over eight hours down to 20%, which is pretty good. Ten hours would be possible maybe.
My Garmin Edge 20 struggles to get to six hours ......... and it doesn't have a map, so the iPhone is better in those regards alone.

Can't seem to see how the track points per mile can be reduced.
Nothing in the settings for it, and nothing in the settings on the phone ............. that I can see.

Re: iPhone tracking app?
You did say you wanted a simple app Mick F?
Re: iPhone tracking app?
There isn't any fine tuning. There is a Diary Mode though that's probably too much, I tried it, can't remember what the frequency was, but not enough for my use.
Re: iPhone tracking app?
No complaints from me.
Nice and simple to use and works fine. Uploads into iCloud and saves tracks you can see and follow.
If 8hrs goes down to 20% battery, it must be 10% per hour (perhaps?)
Flat battery in 10hrs which is MORE than enough.
If I do this 12mile walk and take a USB cable, I can recharge on the train home. Other than that, I have a 10,200mAh portable charger.

Re: iPhone tracking app?
I did a bit of fiddling over lunch (after a ride!) and found that when you click on the bottom left REC symbol you get a list:
Start recording
Start short time recording
Start Diary mode
Settings
Cancel
Never noticed this Settings before. This means there are three separate settings menus.
Click on Settings, and you get this: Click on Time interval and you get this: Soon, in the next day or three if and when I have a 100% available for the test, I'll swap to 2sec and see if the battery drain is less than 10% per hour.

Re: iPhone tracking app?
What does it all mean Mick F?
Re: iPhone tracking app?
Mean?
What does anything mean?
If you mean in the grand scale of things, not a lot.
If you mean if I'm still learning about stuff, then yes I am.

Re: iPhone tracking app?
9hrs of recording and there's still 50% of battery left.
Time interval 5secs and Record in Motion only set to off.
6,445 trackpoints recorded.
May set to 2sec in use. Halfway house accuracy vs battery longevity.

Re: iPhone tracking app?
Have a look at Ridewithgps. Also works for walking
Re: iPhone tracking app?
Thanks.
Just had a look via the app store.
Seems to do much more than I want or need, though valid enough for walking, like you say.
I'm sticking with My Tracks.
