...the best way to stop glasses getting wet and steamy!

Post by sir_lozz »

Yes today i was stupid enough to go for a ride in rain that was bad enough to send Noah into a building frenzy.

I was pondering the best way to keep glasses dry or at least see-through-able (is that a word) during a ride?

I am not a fan of contacts and have tried many things from visors on the helmet to baseball cap, but i always seem to end up with wet and steamy glasses that seriously restrict my vision.

You could always try Rain-X

It's worked well for me on car windscreens although I've never used it on my glasses and I have no idea if it will react to plastic lenses. I think I might give it a go on some old specs.

I suppose that's better than spitting in the water

I've used the washing up liquid trick and it works well.

Spit or raw potato were old tricks with aqualung divers when I was interested in getting cold & wet for fun! Rinse off with cold water & shake, don't wipe.

I made this visor to address exactly the problem you describe. I call it the 'commuter super-visor'. It has a large enough, open enough volume in front of the face and glasses to prevent the specs fogging up. The front/side skirt is low enough that you have to look up to look forward, but can see lots through it - like traffic lights and car signals - though it's blurry. It fixes to my helmet with the silicon rubber band that I got with my helmet camera. I recommend it - it works a treat!

Fairy liquid for me too, it works a treat. Also for the safety glasses at work. You need to do it about once a fortnight though.
