Ticked the box!

Postby GrumpyGit » 12 Oct 2008, 6:33pm

OK, I did it this afternoon!

I had to use my lowest gear and I arrived at my destination in a very sweaty state but I feel a sense of achievement at having taken that hill.

Heavy car traffic through Highgate Village made the run a bit harder than it needed to be as I couldn't keep moving so I may research a slightly longer but less steep route for the future.

Considering that I'm still recovering from a collection of injuries around my left knee and I'm closer to my pension than puberty I don't think I did too bad.

Clocked 31 mph on the descent before I had to hit the brakes to safely negotiate the potholes!

I've earned a cold beer this evening. :D

Well done GrumpyGit. As I said on the recent climbing thread, a lot of the problem with climbing is in the mind, but that doesn't make climbing any easier.

Which did you find most helpful? The local knowledge you asked for or the (mild) joshing from the 'out in the sticks' brigade?

Cheers!

I think the most helpful thing was chosing to use my hybrid as it has many more (and lower) gears to choose from than my Dahon Jack, although the Jack would have the advantage that I could fold it up and put it in the back of a taxi :D
