I'd be up for a bit of that, particularly if a few other Viscounts are along for the ride. I tagged along to a wedding of one of Mrs Goldie's friends in Tuscany, just down the road from where the the Italian l'Eroica starts, and I spent the flight back gibbering excitedly to a hungover Mrs Goldie about how someone should do a British version around the peaks, so it's wish fulfillment of the purest kind that someone has actually gone and done just that. I'm doing (or more realistically, starting) the Pendle Witches ride this year - http://www.pendlewitchesvintagevelo.co. ... sting.html - anyone else signed up for it? It's a beauty...

Anyone manage to get out and enjoy the sun today? I planned to, got up nice and early all set and ready to leave, went to put some air in the tires and broke my track pump. Fine I thought hand pump it is, got the tyre pumped up, took the pump of the valve and promptly snapped the end of the valve off. :x . I gave up hope at this point went back in, had a cuppa then disappeared down the allotment for the day.

Woohoo! I think I've actually joined that successfully! Which means I'd better ow up to the disgraceful fact that the Aerospace is in the cellar, and has been for weeks now - I've just been using my Land Rover like steel framed MTB over the winter, and watching the various components corrode and fall apart in front of my eyes...

Just posting up a reminder that the second Viscount/Lambert Rally will be on Saturday 28th June.
Venue to be confirmed, but somewhere central-ish in England, UK.

I really need to catch up on some posts.

Busaste: that Pro is gorgeous, but I'd be too much of a tight ar** to fork out 175 for it when I've got one here for 60 quid and 100% original. :-)

I'm on one of my occasional forays into the interweb. Good to catch up on the news, but sorry to hear about various mishaps to bikes and bodies. Busaste - get down the GP for a physio appointment is my recommendation, my husband sorted a frozen shoulder in no time with the physio regime.

Yes, I'm going to be at Eroica Britannia with Viscount and tent. Same tent and Viscount that went from Edinburgh to the CTC York Rally in 1982, but time constraints mean I'm going to drive to Bakewell. Also, I no longer have a luggage rack fitted, so couldn't carry the kit. And I will have to replace the unheroic, new (only ten years old), sleek Shimano brake levers with something more old fashioned that has visible cables.

Have also been give a pass-out to come to DFR2 on 28th.

Mean! :-)

Indeed a lovely bike. A pro, too? Have to be honest, I love the Maxy chain ring. Not as much as the porthole one, but still ...

Hello everyone,

My first posting on this forum, what a thread! The reason for my visit..... I'm the proud new owner of a Viscount Aerospace Sport.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Viscount-Lambert-Aerospace-Sport-10-speed-classic-tourer-1970-1980s-/251452045818?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=AbG8LbzM6z%252BcBac9ILgiQ%252BT1sz0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Frame number is 564079 - can anyone take a stab at the year from the ad and frame number?

I'm looking for some period tyres, a suitably aged black Brooks and and a canvas saddlebag. The gears need to be adjusted and it's ready to roll.

Happy Bunny!!

Regards

Alyn

Hi Alyn,

Welcome to the thread and kudos on your new purchase! It looks in good order.

I'll leave it to others with better knowledge to reply to your questions (which they will :D) - Enjoy!

Hi, Alyn.

I'll second Lewsig's welcome. It's the bike Busaste tried to tempt me with. Glad it's gone to a good home. I can't answer your question re the year, but it looks like it's in good condition with original forks.

Are you in London, by any chance? Then we have to organise a London meet-up with Cusqueno and maybe go for a Viscount ride. :-)

Hi Stella,

I shall have to pass on the ride I'm afraid, I live in Rugby. (Hope to get to see people at the Death Fork Rally)

The bike has had a new fork fitted, by the second owner, who apparently serviced it and fitted all new cables. Judging by the cracked tyres he didn't ride it. I have contacted the first owner who vouches for the provenance of the bike.

It will take me a while to sort the bike and build up to riding it any distance. It's part of my occupational therapy and recovery.

I suffered a couple of what were initially diagnosed as TIAs (Mini-strokes) at the beginning of last September and have been off work since. The medics are now getting to the bottom of it and the prognosis is good. My Doc thought that cycling would be beneficial, so I recommissioned my old Trek, sourced a Dawes Karakum, a gas pipe Raleigh and a Turbo Trainer. The Trek took me a month to service - at that time I was sleeping about 16 hours a day.

The Viscount Aerospace is something I read up on a few years ago and struck a chord when I was looking on E-bay. (One of the legacies of last Septembers episodes is a poor short term and gaps in long term memory. I think this is improving - I dismantled the same pedal three times on the Trek) I decided to start searching for one - the size was going to be the problem, I'm 6'5" - and I got lucky!

Apologies to you and anyone else reading this, I also tend to loose track and ramble...... er what was the question?

What a great bike and an interesting group of riders.

Regards

Alyn

So the saddle re-shaping has largely been a success. The shape is certainly better and the kink in the nose has been mostly corrected.

Unfortunately some of the seemingly minor cracks/crazes have worsened, particularly around the perforations. I think I wrapped it a little too tightly. Hoping that they will improve again as the saddle relaxes. A lot of dye/polish came out in the soak which has also made them stand out for.

For now it's lots & lots of proofide & I'll take a little wire wool to the rust underneath then when new tyres arrive I'll take it for a tentative spin. My bum is looking foward to it!
