Currency change in Cuba

We will be holidaying there for 2 weeks from Jan 02 - I have found out this information - no more dollars used from November 08;
<Yes, there is a CADECA (a place for exchenging your currency) at the Old Havana where you can exchenge all your british currency. 1 CUC = 1.609865 GBP>

Does anyone no what a CUC buys - what local value? Don't know how much money to take.
