advice on adding pics to ads please

does anyone out there please know how to add photos to an ad in the for sale section

I have exported a couple of pics from Picasa to My Documents, and now can Copy but cant Paste..

having used Autotrader a couple of years ago, I remember the same problem, but due to Age, cant remember the Solution

Sadly, my pleas for something simple to shove piccies into our posts are falling onto a black hole that is software and the internet!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could just drag and drop!

Anyway, here's a quick guide:

1. You need a small file of a picture. My camera is set to take shots of 1.2MB or more, so I need a software package that can shrink my photos down to a couple of hundred KBs.

2. Click on the Browse button below this window when you're posting a message.

3. "Navigate" through your files to find the piccie you want. I always make sure the one I want is on my desktop first.

4. Click on "Add the file" button below.

5. A window will open showing your piccie uploading to the forum.

6. When it's done it, the window will close, then you click on "Place inline" below here.

7. A string of gobbldygook will appear on your text. It will have the appearance of something like:
[ attachment=0]IMG_(a number).jpg[/attachment ]

8. Click on Preview to see if it's worked. If it's ok, click Submit.

Mick, the only way I can make my pictures smaller is with scissors - I really am sorry, but it's all over my head - I still don't know the difference between Mb & Kb - and how many of each you get to the pound.

As you rightly say, why can't I just 'copy and paste' - it works with Word and Excell!

And - my Allen keys won't fit in the CD slot either....

I found a way round, a bit cumbersome but it works for me!

1. right click on the picture you want to post
2. select send by email - a dialogue box pops up asking if you want to reduce its size - say yes
3. an email pops up with the reduced picture as an attachment
4. save the attachment somewhere convenient and upload that to the site instead of the much larger original

Camera pics tend to have large file sizes by default - too big for the web.

(1) They would take ages to transfer (upload) from my computer to this website.
(2) They would take ages to transfer (download) from this website to anyone's computer to see them.
(3) They would occupy far too much storage space on this website.
(4) Images of this size are far too tall and wide for a computer screen.

A digital image is measured (width and height) in pixels (computer millimetres, so to speak). You have to reduce them down dimensionally so that they are less than 0.256 megabytes - 256 kilobytes - to make them manageable for this website. If you don't already have a program that does this, I believe Google's free Picasa does - although I haven't tried it myself.

But I can't see why the software in the website can't re-size the picture as it loads.

Some website software does that sort of thing, but I think the large image still has to be uploaded (for the software to 'know' what size it is) and for the images to be displayed - even at a smaller size - they are still stored at their original size on the website's disk space. Someone might correct me on that, but I think that's it, and I would guess is the reason why forum software is how it is - lots of users, lots of images with big ones rejected instead of being stored.

The bars and stem are still in use on my Mercian, along with the seatpin still.
Mercian Vincitore underwent a full respray and checkover in 2007 that cost more than the whole frame did in 1986!
