Bit of an odd question here but I thought I'd give it a go.
An older female cyclist mentioned to me the other day that she used to have a sort of cover that clipped onto the back wheel (possibly to the mud guard) that kept ones skirts out of the spokes. Does anyone know what such a thing would be called, and whether it is still possible to obtain them?
Thanks ever so much.

Skirt protector?
Re: Skirt protector?
They're called 'skirt guards'. Available from here (and probably elsewhere too): http://www.cambridgecyclecompany.co.uk/ ... ef4c1004cb
Or you could make your own! http://www.instructables.com/id/Quick-& ... rt-Guards/

Re: Skirt protector?
They certainly used to sell skirt protectors - I used to use one over my front wheel in winter just to contain the spray (I don't wear skirts for cycling or anything else ) The thing I'm talking about was a lozenge (diamond) shaped piece of PVC type material with loops at each end to fit over the dropouts. The length between the loops would be about 25 - 26" to be long enough to stretch over the back mudguard. The width would be enough to fill most of the angle between the chainstays and seatstays. I suppose it would be easy to make one.
I did a google and the nearest thing I could find was this, which looks to be made of something more rigid.

PS A couple moreUK suppliers of this sort of thing

Re: Skirt protector?
If you are handy at sewing, someone on www.instructables.com has instructions to make them.

Fitted a new set to the mighty Sparta the other month.
IRO £5 from Amsterdammers

You dont have to wear a dress to reap the benifits - they are great for keeping spray/road muck off any clothing..........
