Bikes on French Trains

I'm thinking of heading to Perpignan (eastern Pyrenees) in July with a bike. Anyone know whether I can take the bike unpackaged and whether it travels on the same train or is shipped separately. If anyone has made this journey or similar, would be great to get some reassurance!
