Double groove handlebars silver

Post by hillspecial »

Hi,

does anyone know of any {NOS?} silver double groove drop bars for sale anywhere - loo on lots of websites - all black bars though.

I'm building up a retro-ish bike with all silver componets - 95% of the bars are coverd in tape I know - but still want silver , I've got a cople of pairs of black bars.

Using with ergo levers , hence need double groove.

Ta

Use a polishing wheel to remove the black.

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ?

I'd assumed alu bars are black annodised for hardness, as well as colour, as with rims.

With annodising removed they would be weaker and would soon tarnish?

I may have to stick with black?

I've used single groove bars with Ergo levers on one bike. It helps that I used Specialized gel Bar Phat padding - it means the adjacent cable is less prone. Double groove is nice, but hardly essential IMO.

Not necessarily, a lot of black bars are painted but not necessarily anodised first, so polishing the black off would almost certainly be the beginning of a lot of regret.

If you're just polishing off the paint then it's fine? I bought some used black bars that had been polished in the middle, the rest will be covered by bar tape.

I don't know a supplier, but you might want to try searching for some ITM / ITALMANUBRI. Writing on the bars says:
    MOD.
    ITALIA
    SUPER
    TRAINING
    MADE
    ITALY
Damaged in transit were mine, so you can't use them. Appear to have been a '99 production run.
(They have exactly the same shaped bends as the single groove, ITM "Europa Super Racing".)

Have a look for Pro. They do silver, but I can't remember if they're doubles or not.

I use Cinelli bars, the same ones I've had since 1986!

No grooves, nice and silver, and I use Ergos.

With good cork tape and neatly done, who needs grooves?

The anodised layer is so thin it has no effect on strength. It is merely cosmetic; I like the Jobst Brandt quote on http://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/anodized-rims.html "it acts like a thin coat of paint on a rubber band...
Although he is referring to rims rather than bars, the logic is the same.
