Try a SEARCH before you posts
Before posting a query, please take a few minutes to use the SEARCH* to see if the issue has been discussed before. You may find that the information you need is already there. If your query is only partly answered, the results of your search may still help you to be more specific with your question. Failing to do this may provoke cries of desperation.
* The Search facility on this Forum is good and easy to use. ( Top left-hand side, in the Forum box ). It is possible to select the results by "post" or by "topic" according to the requirement.
Focus us in on the information that you need
Please include sufficient detail for others to understand, including an indication of your level of knowledge about the subject. Otherwise replies may contain too much or too little explanation and so may seem patronising or unhelpful. In particular, do not worry if you are unfamiliar with jargon.
Our thanks to Thirdcrank for the above contributions

Does Anyone Know - Posting Guidelines
***Inserting a hyperlink***
Graham, could you please advise on inserting a hyperlink. I know it's something to do with the URL button above but I cannot work it out nor can I find anywhere as guidance.
Trust you can help, please.

Kim

Can anyone tell me why, when I tried to follow the link posted by Mick F, I was informed that I'm not authorised to read this forum?

Ah.
Thanks for bringing this up.
The thread has gone "somewhere".
I'll copy out what was said.
I hope that helps.
I don't know why the thread was removed. Mods, any reason?

Once I can get past the first instruction, I may have chance - the advice says "use the URL button, above right". Can someone please let me know in graphic detail where this button is, and what it looks like ?
Many thanks !!
When you write a post, look at the buttons above the writing area. The URL button is at the right.
You don't have to use the button. It's easiest, less confusing at least, to just write:
[ url=http://www.google.com ]Google[ /url ]
- but you must leave the spaces out - which gives you this:
I hope that helps.

Yep, the thread was about how to reduce the length of long links: the new forum software does that for you (most of the time) so it was deemed that the thread wasn't needed anymore.
Re: Does Anyone Know - Posting Guidelines
Thanks Si,
I guessed that, as long links seem to have stopped being a problem any more.
Still, using hyperlinks can be a bit neat sometimes.
