I have seen a bike which could turn into a bit of a project.......
The frame is Raleigh "Record Ace Moderne" in 653, which isn't wonderful, but it has a full Shimano Sante groupset....the condition is more "country house" than mint, but the hubs are smooth.
It needs a new 7 speed cassette...the sort with a screw on top sprocket...is that uniglide? are they available? can I use the existing top sprocket with 6 sprockets from a regular 7 speed cassette?
I don't really need a bike like this....is the groupset worth selling?
Ebay has some Sante bits, and even one of these bikes, less wheels!...http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/__shimano+sante_W0QQ_dmdZ2?rvr_id=238473095687&clk_rvr_id=238473095687&crlp=973051171_284591_284611&UA=%3F*I8&GUID=2cb590481250a0e203c07700fcd05835&agid=500973511&tm_kw=shimano+sante&siteid=3&MT_ID=10&tt_encode=raw&keyword=shimano+sante&geo_id=21&ff4=284591_284611

You'll never know if you don't try it.
Re: BUY uniglide cassette or SELL Sante groupset?
As all the wear on a uniglide sprocket is on one side you can turn the sprockets around to use the back face and double their life - unfortunately you can't do this with the small sprocket that screws on to hold it al together.

At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin, Raleigh 20, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Longstaff trike conversion on a Falcon corsa.

I should not tell you this as I may need it myself one day.

Yes you can use the existing cassette with hyperglide sprockets but you have to take a grinder to one of the splines on one of them, cant remember which but think it is the freehub body.

Re: BUY uniglide cassette or SELL Sante groupset?
Colin, I have a spare uniglide cassette body and a 6 speed 13-21 cassette that are both in good condition (the sprockets are the same for 6 and 7 speed, you would just need to use your 7 speed spacers and 1 of your existing sprockets), pop me a PM is they are of interest to you.
They became spare when I converted an old 105 hub to 9 speed and re-spaced it to 135mm.

IIRC Sante was placed between Ultegra and Dura-Ace in the earlyish days of indexing, but you probably new that already.
