Norman 'Invader' frame

Post by GOHughes »

I have been given an old frame by a neighbour, which I am thinking of restoring and using as a town bike with hub gears and 'North Road' handlebars.

The frame has the name 'Norman' on the down tube and 'Invader' on the seat tube. It has a chromed fork crowm and a very shallow fork rake.

There is a faded but still legible Reynolds 531 label on the seat tube, though this is red on black, rather than the usual green and gold on black.

Does anyone know anything about 'Norman' frames/bikes? There is a head badge but it is too corroded to make out anything other than ".......cycles"

Also, does anyone have any advice on replacing the B/B and headset? Both are free moving but I suspect won't be compatible with modern components.

Wikipedia

threw up a link to this:

http://normanmotorcycles.org.uk/

They made motorbikes and mopeds as well as bicycles in Ashford in Kent.

The Invader is on page 3 of the gallery.

Enjoy!

There was a small collection of Norman bikes in the windmill at Willesborough, on the ouskirts of Ashford, when the Millers Tale audax started there some years ago. I haven't been there recently but assume they are still there - the windmill is open to the public.
