Best helmet colour?

Postby NewHorizon » 11 Sep 2012, 11:38am

Can't decide which is better - dark or light. Dark helps you stand out against a light background, light the opposite, but good in low light. There seem to be more dark ones than light from manufacturers. Any views?

I let the colour of my jacket worry about visibility. The helmet matches the colour of the bike.

+1 for white. I put reflective tape on mine too. With a white helmet I never have to worry about wearing bright clothing.

Touring on a bicycle is a great way to explore and appreciate the countryside and towns you pass through. What do you do to make a difference?

I always ride with a water and sunproof cover over it anyway and that's black. I rely on all the other yellow stuff to do the business.

They'll run you down whatever.

Hair coloured (or skin if bald) ;)

In answer to the original question I'd suggest a checker band (see police tags) around the head.
If it can be retro blue/yellow then all the better.

Then a blue flashing light on top ;) (This would probably be illegal)

Your helmet is unlikely to be the thing that gets seen, except in dense traffic. Your body is a much larger area, which can be more usefully festooned if you so desire.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

Went for a Kask Mojito in white, no option for blue flashing light though. Thanks all for comments.

I'm not fond of the brand but for visabilty it can't get much better than this:

Still, will probably stop working after a few days...

The main concern when I bought my last helmet was mounting options for the camera and small leds, colour came below price. I have added black reflective tape to my black helmet.

As it reflects heat(I know) keeping the head a little cooler on a hot day and as my head doesn't need to absorb heat on a cool day it's a win win.

let the colour of my jacket worry about visibility.......

Agreed.

Forgive me if I'm being retarded here, but how exactly does that work?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Mine's red.

EDIT: No, red and black. Nearly completely black from the back.
