Cycle Guard Insurance: Approved Bike Lock List...Help!!

Post by Metallica »

Hi there, I'm new!

I had my bike stolen on Tuesday in Liverpool. They cut cleanly though my Halfords cable lock. I've never had anything stolen before so I couldn't believe it when I finished work and came back to find it missing :(

I bought a new bike today and I've decided I should get it insured.

For the past few hours I've been researching insurance policies and the locks they require you to have if you should take out a policy with them.

The new bike I've bought cost £130 and CycleGuard quote that the yearly insurance will cost £23.

This is where I'd appreciate some help!

I've pasted their approved list of locks into this post and I've been having trouble finding the specific models...or if I do find them, they cost about £50.

I don't really want to spend £50 on a bike lock and then £23 a year on insurance when the bike itself was only £130 so does anyone know of an approved lock that is nice and cheap? (I'd spend up to £30)

Thanks a lot for any help,
Mark

Your cover is dependant on using a lock from our approved locklist, you can use a lock for a higher value bicycle than yours but you cannot use a lock designed for a less expensive bicycle than the one you have insured. For example, you can use a lock from categories B and C with a bicycle under £250 but you cannot use a category A lock for a bicycle over £1500.

If bike only cost £130 I think I would get a decent lock and forget the insurance esp if they are not going to give full replacement value.

My trike is covered for £2500 on my house contents ins and as long as it's locked to something solid with a good lock then it's covered.

I'm the same, the bike is on the home contents and I they don't specify a make or even type of lock as long as the bike is actually locked to something solid.
We've also claimed for a bike (the hubbies) on the same policy just over 4 years ago and they settled within 7 days, £850 less £50 excess so at least we know they pay up when it matters.
