Working out my frame size.

Post by AlastairS »

THinking of buying a Triban 3 or 5 by delivery.
I am 5' 7" (170cm) with an inside leg (in bare feet to floor) of 29" or 30".
Don't know if you need my arm length too ?
Thanks, Alastair

IIRC there is a sizing guide on the decathlon website. I suspect that it will be obvious what size frame to get, and if you need to buy a new stem to make it fit perfectly, it isn't the end of the world, is it?

If you are between sizes (or have arms like a gorilla) then maybe there is a choice to be made....?

cheers

The French site has a sizing measurement slider:

http://www.decathlon.fr/velo-route-triban-3-id_8167038.html

According to that a 54cm is suitable for anyone from 167cm to 174cm tall.

This thread says:

"The Decathlon staff measured the bike for somebody and they got the following measurements...
B'twin Triban 3 size 54, seat tube 45cm, top tube (real) 53cm, top tube (virtual) 54cm."

For that sort of bike you are looking at £20-£30 for a replacement stem.

eh? If it is 1" clamp size choice of ten or more here <£15

http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/stems-1-1-8-ahead-standard-dept902_pg1/

and if oversize bars still less than £20 gets you a choice of eight or so;

http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/stems-1-1-8-ahead-oversized-dept901_pg1/#page=1&page=1&order=PRICE%20ASCENDING

and that is just one shop....

For replacement stems, Ebay looks the most promising place http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw= ... sacat=7294
Typical BIN prices start at £14-15; pay less if you wait for a bargain.

A decent bike shop should swap the stem for you at no charge.
With the modern "Ahead" type stem, it's a very simple job.
I did mine myself in the shop whilst the shop keeper dealt with another customer when I bought my last bike at my LBS.

Decathlon might be a different story, but the principle is the same.
