Dunno about other places, but it's been reaching 23degC every day here for the past week, and quite warm for the previous week too. Wall-wall sunshine is crystal clear skies. Goodness knows how much longer we can have weather like this.
I was out yesterday for a 40odd mile ride in the heat of the day, and although I was ok generally, my feet were burning hot in the sunshine. I curtailed my ride somewhat to go through a tree-lined route for a while to cool them off - and took my time! I had planned on a 50odd mile ride, but it was too much.
My question:
Is there anything I can do about hot feet - due to hot sunshine?
Is it possible to get sandals with road cleats?

You need expansion room inside the shoes IMO, or regular streams by the road side. A change of socks can help as well.

A circular route around this point ...

There'll be tarmac over, the white cliffs of Dover ...
Re: Too Darn Hot
with the right adaptation, I'm sure you can bolt a road cleat to anything.... but SPD sandals are an easy solution for spd users, anyway.
How about some Dr Scholl's with road cleats...?
23C... we are just not used to it, are we... those in Southern Europe would laugh at us thinking that is 'hot'....but I feel it too...
cheers

I hope no-one's complaining!

There's plenty of us in our DA doing long day rides in the Shimano SPD sandals Mick, I've done 75 mile rides in them no problem, example here: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-sd66-sp ... ampaign=uk

No

I wonder if we have ever had the argument of MTB cleats v Road cleats with somebody adamantly pointing out that road cleats work for them and are the best.

I went out and did a nice hot ride yesterday, even took my shirt of on the steepest isolated climbs where no-one would see me.
My feet felt great in their Shimano Sandals.

It may be wall to wall sunshine, but the north wind that seems to have been blowing non stop this year is certainly keeping temperatures down here.
Makes it fresher for cycling, but that much harder when going against it!

The gardens are complaining, but I'm certainly not! It's wonderful and very welcome indeed. It's been YEARS since we had continuous sunny and hot weather here.
I take it that road cleat sandals aren't available. I've Googled etc and can't find any. Don't talk to me about SPDs. I don't want them.
I wear leather road shoes and before that a pair of black Sidi shoes, and before that some black Agu shoes. I wore some grey/black Lidl SPD shoes when I rode my Chopper, and when the sun shines hotly, my feet get burny hot inside the shoes. Always have done, and no doubt will always do. Get in the shade for a while, and all is fine.
I remember climbing the long hill onto Black Isle towards Inverness from Cromarty some years ago and it was purgatory. I managed to find some shade near the top on the right-hand side of the road under some pine trees - it was the only shade for miles. My body wasn't too hot, but my feet were burning inside my shoes. Shade for ten minutes and they were fine.
I wonder if white shoes would be better?

Nice and warm in Suffolk too this week. But we've still got the blasted north easterly wind blowing. I also did a ride yesterday. To Lavenham for tea with some freinds from the club, very nice going out but much harder coming back! I wear Exustar sandals (with SPD cleats) when it's very hot. They certainly keep the feet cooler.

Better than what? Certainly not better than lovely, total-ventilation Shimano sandals.

Oh, but you would need SPDs for them.

Re: Too Darn Hot
Come on guys, I'm not entering into arguments about SPD vs Road.
I have a pedal system that I'm happy with, and won't be changing anything. I'm asking if there are sandals that would fit my bike - sadly, seems like not.
I'm now asking if using white shoes would be better.

That's ok.
It's just that this is a serious question.
Busy later, gotta DRIVE a car today. I'll be wearing shorts and sandals and have the air-con on.
