Slightly off-topic, but reminds me of the CTC's dangerous hill signs. I remember seeing one on the descent to the A54 from North Rode, in about 1976, which was still a long time for it to survive. Imagine it's gone now though.

Brilliant. I did all my early cycling round there, but I think I only passed it once. It's just stuck in my mind as an early memory. I tried to spot it on Street View just now and missed it.

Ditto! Any photos?

There is this:

Some square sign there which the googlecar hasn't photographed from the other side. But doesn't look old enough nor steep enough. Didn't spot anything on Bank Lane.

Sadly no. A bunch of us started riding as Venture Scouts. I took quite a few black and white photos in those days, but they've disappeared somewhere. Quite soon, we joined the South Lancashire Road Club, now defunct, and rode with them all over Cheshire and the Derbyshire Peaks.

So where's that, is it it's original home, and of what should we be cautious? :D

It is at the top of Stede Hill, Harrietsham, Kent.

I was first introduced to it in it's current position about 30 years back. I hope it was originally on a post facing the carriageway at more or less the same site because it is quite inconspicuous, look to your left.

Possibly the steep(ish) descent ahead, or it could be the Cyclists' Touring Club  .
