rear mech

Post by kenF »

Hi, I have a commuter bike with shimano alvio rear derailleur (8spd). The little bolt underneath which holds the gear cable in place has fallen out, so im stuck in one gear(top). I can get a replacement Sora rear mech for £15 but the other one (would) works fine if I had the cable bolt & plate. Is it possible to buy a replacement bolt & securing plate or if not does anyone know what thread and length the bolt is ?
Thanks

If it was me I would just go into my local bike shop & explain your predicament - they will almost certainly have the bits floating around in their odds & ends drawer/box. Admittedly they know me well in mine (quick plug for Green Machine in Horwich :D ) and will either charge me a nominal sum (50p/£1) or give it free, depending on what it is I've lost or broken this time.

Will have a look in garage tomorrow after bike ride for clamp and bolt.
Someone somewhere will have a worn out rear mech for salvage.
No need to be stuck in top.
Screw the cage "stop" high adjusting screw down to shift a couple of sprockets up the block/cassette.
BEWARE! don't take it too far down and clear of thread and then lose it!
