Of a helmet cover that fits the helmet

Post by ukdodger »

I've tried the Altura and one other whose name I forget but neither of them came down under the rim of a Giro helmet. The result is they blow off. I had one whose name I also cant for the life of me remember but which was black and might have had the name 'ABF' or something like that on it. That did fit under the rim but that one I lost on a recent tour when I lifted the peak (of the cover) above the rim of the helmet to see something, forgot to bring it back down and it pulled itself off backwards and was gone forever.

I use a Vaude helmet cover.
It has a drawcord to tighten the grip and it fits over a peak.

You know those shower caps you get in hotels, like elasticated polythene bags?
They work quite well, just don't expect any prizes for style!!

Cheers. Does it come down under the rim?

^^^ As I recall, that was Richard Ballantine's practice. Or you could get a curler cap or whatever they're called.

I use a Vaude cover too. Stays on perfectly (Met Stradivarius). I put a couple of slits in it to take the Velcro that secures my helmet light - I suppose a few drops get through but they're negligible.
Have we got time for another cuppa?

I have the Carradice Pro Route which is very well made in a sturdy, fairly heavy hi viz pvc and it always stays put on my peaked helmet- it is cut large enough to hook over the front of the peak and down to the bottom of the back of the helmet and the elastic is strong:

I use a Bell's helmet. Bell's make a cover that fits on with studs. I have Bell' visor that fits over the cover. Works very well. I am not sure if it is still available.

The helmet is. That's a good idea. Like the helmet too. As someone who fell off a bike and landed on his chin what I would like is a helmet that has a chin guard also. But not one as heavy as mountain bikers wear.

They do keep your head dry, and on a long day in the cold and wet, seems worth having
