Hello Guys,

I don't know much about cycling but I have a group presentation so I thought what better than to ask in a cycling forum for help. Basically I need to test someone in the following areas

vO2 Max
Power:Weight ratio
Cycling Economy
HR Zones
Anaerobic threshold

I was wondering how I go about testing someone in these areas and what tests will be optimal ?

I have heard of all these terms before but other than cycling economy, the others are not cycling specific – they are just general physiological measurements. To measure them properly you need a specially equipped gym and technical training to know what you’re doing. You don’t need to know about cycling to do these tests but you do need to be properly qualified.

Apart from this, there are rough and ready ways to calculate HR zones and from these you can approximate anaerobic threshold. I'm sure members on this forum will have many opinions on this.

I do not know how one would measure cycling efficiency. I just ride because I like it.

Vo2 Max it's measured on a cycling specific machine called a Kingcycle. It's normally known as the 'Kingcycle Test's, it's apparently significantly different to the same test say, a runner might do.

I don't know your expertise in this area but you may need an emergency medical facility available if you are going anywhere threshold testing.
Just in case

I would suggest you go over to http://www.timetriallingforum.co.uk/ and ask on there, there are specialist coaches etc who can probably help, but as said VO2 etc requires some fairly specialist kit, and it was only yesterday i had one with a highly qualified coach /physiologist.....

This has a link to VO2, Power/weight/training zones and threshold so should offer info on much of what you need.
