I've currently got a garmin edge 200 which mostly has been all I've needed, except maps.
I'm not concerned with power, cadence or heart rate monitoring, but I would like maps so I'm not constantly having to grab my phone out of my saddle bag when I get lost.
Basic speed, distance and uploading to strava is what's important, together with the maps.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
Which Garmin is likely to be best for me ?

Re: Garmin upgrade with maps.
I just bought a Garmin eTrex 20, which I've loaded maps for the whole of the UK on, with space to spare - approx £125 from Amazon
Very similar to my old legend, which has worked pretty well for 15 years or so, so hoping it will do as well

Hi Chris. What's the battery like on your etrex? Would it last all night for the Dunwich Dynamo ? Can it be used whilst charging ?

it uses AA batteries, which is one of the main reasons I bought it - claims quite a while on one set, but I carry a spare just in case - will last a full day ride
Re: Garmin upgrade with maps.
With the right batteries you should get 24 hours out of a GPS like that (I am thinking of its predecessors in The Etrex HCX series).
They dont charge through the USB port but it can be run directly from the USB port if you have an uninterrupted supply (like a Luxus light) with an intermittent supply it would keep turning itself off.
If you want to be able to see much more than a couple of inches of map you will find the screens on these disappointingly small.

The screen is small. but i just use it to follow a pre-programmed track, which it does very well, thus meeting my needs

Garmin claim 17 hours battery life with the etrex20 and although I've yet to measure this, a couple eneloops can easily do that. The 20 does chew battery life when using either of the 2 backlight modes though. The light can be set to automatically switch off after a given time which you can set. I carry a spare set of eneloop AA's as they weigh nothing and have only ever used them maybe 3 times in over 2 years and then only because I set off with near dead batteries.
Strava unfortunately will not recognise the etrex20 directly, but you can upload whatever data it collects by going through your computer.

I have been using an Etrex 20 for the last couple of years. providing you dont buy batteries from pound land they will last. I have had 24 hours plus out of a set. Had have no problems at all on 300k Audax's. Lot depends how long you have
