The programme is aimed at increasing the number of trainers able to reach the new National Standard for Cycle Training and the number of local authorities, organisations and schools able deliver high quality training which reaches the new National Standard. Whilst this new funding is to be welcomed, until the profile of cycle-training to the National Standards has been adequately raised it is questionable whether there will be enough call for these new Instructors.
I know of Instructors who are opposed to this funding because the work available for them is already so thin.
The point being made to me over and over again is that actual training opportunities are required first.
Very few people have heard of the new training standards. Perhaps some high profile national advertising might be in order, something which has been VERY noticeable by its absence.

Yes you have a valid point but there is no immediate answer to this issue. Marketing is about raising the profile of the National Standards both to the public and to scheme organisers ie Local Authorities.
This funding is primarily aimed at Local Authorities to enable and encourage them to achieve National Standards in their area. There is also money set aside to raise the profile of the National Standards in cycle training. A national marketing launch is scheduled although initially a soft approach is being taken. There also needs to be taken into account the fact that there is currently an uneven geographical spread of instructors, an issue which this bursary scheme is hoping to resolve.
