Level 1 playground sizes

Post by charlytango »

Just to ask, what is a safe playground size for delivering level 1? If one court (marked on a playground) is about right for 8 level 1 cyclists is it still safe for 12 trainees or does the risk increase by 50% and therefore make the risk unjustifiable? What do others think about 2 groups of 12 (24 level 1 cyclists) cycling around a playground all at same time?

There are some pretty small playgournds around. I think the approach to teaching and group size somewhat depend upon the facilities available. But I wouldn't try to quantify the change in associated risk. Just use common sense about the space available. I don't think I've seen a playground that I'd want 24 kids cycling around. When I've had larger groups, I've split them. A few weeks ago, I was half of a team that delivered levels 1 & 2 to 36 kids. We split them into 3 groups, then did back-to-back sessions. Hard work!
