Did that and got the "Your preferences have been updated." page in reply.

Please could those who are having difficulty making their preferences stick post their browser and operating system details here?

Now that's very strange: I just retried and it saved it this time.

Browser is Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:45.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/45.1

I found the cause. It seems javascript has to be enabled and have loaded successfully for general board preferences to save. That is almost certainly a bug with phpbb itself, rather than a problem of this site.

I could imagine the JavaScript is needed for the "Select all" and "Clear all" links, but saving the settings shouldn't need JavaScript as that would happen server-side.

If it is a phpBB bug then we could report it to the phpBB community so they can fix it.

I can click "Unmark All" and it does.
Then I click "Submit" and it does.
Then the window re-opens, and it's the same as it was before I clicked "Unmark All".

Three things to try:

  1. Instead of using the "unmark all" button, directly un-tick the boxes one-by-one.
  2. Try temporarily using the default ProSilver theme, instead of SubSilver2.
  3. Try adjusting these settings in a different browser, such as Firefox.

With any luck one of the above will make a difference, and we'll have narrowed down the possibilities.

I've done quite a thorough search for other people having this sort of problem, and can't find anything.

I've already tried 1 and 2 to no avail.
In fact I tried them twice to make sure.

Not got another browser to hand, but I do have a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone. The awful thing doesn't use Safari but some strange Samsung app called "Internet".

I have no idea, then, I'm afraid. The next step would be to install a web proxy debugger tool, like Charles, so see exactly what your browser is sending to the server.

Or wait and see if anyone else encounters the same problem, so we can look at what symptoms are common.

Just a small point which had confused me: I think you cannot untick the "notification" box if you have ticked the corresponding "email" box.

Yes, that seems to be true.
I've tried all sorts of combinations, but the "zero" option doesn't work.

I can unmark all, press submit, and this comes back.
Screen Shot 2016-05-28 at 08.18.47.png
No matter how many times I do it, and on no matter which device I use, and no matter what board preferences I use .............. the result is always the same.

Not that it matters really, because the remaining selections are quite reasonable and maybe required.
Possibly, this is the default automatic selection that the designers want you to have.

It's just that if there's an option to unmark all and submit, it should give you what you ask for.

No idea why you can't select no notifications. I have been able to un-tick every option here, no problem.
