Opening Hyperlinks
Opening Hyperlinks
Since the software upgrade hyperlinks to other websites, e.g. Spa Cycles have been opening in the same tab, replacing the forum page.
I'm confident that before the upgrade they opened in a new tab.

Re: Opening Hyperlinks
Ah, yes, we customised the old Forum to open external links in a new window/tab.
I'll re-introduce that soon. In the meantime you can use Shift-click or Ctrl-click or similar, depending on your browser.

Re: Opening Hyperlinks
... and, slightly annoyingly, "cyclinguk" is longer than "ctc". This causes the link in a notification email for a new post to wrap and get broken in plain-text email formats, where previously it did not, so links don't work.
Re: Opening Hyperlinks
I raised this when the last update happened and I found that a link opens up in the same window, whereas before, it opened a new window.gaz wrote:Since the software upgrade hyperlinks to other websites, e.g. Spa Cycles have been opening in the same tab, replacing the forum page.

Now that the forum has been updated again, there is no difference. It still opens up in the same window.
In order to get a NEW window, I need to do Control/Click (Apple Mac).

Re: Opening Hyperlinks
You can always force the browser to open a new tab by right-clicking the hyperlink then selecting Open Link in new tab.
I've noticed that many other sites do the same by default, i.e. open in the same tab - and I read somewhere that this is a measure designed to protect the user's privacy. I don't see how that can be, unless it's something to do with the way your browsing history is stored - and can be attacked by hackers.
Perhaps someone can elucidate?

Re: Opening Hyperlinks
Opening in a new window takes control from the user, by always forcing a new window. Opening in the same way leaves control with the user, who can right-click and choose the new window.
For this reason, I dislike sites that force new windows. I have even installed browser add-ons to over-ride them, but it's a bit extreme having to do that.

I suspect OS because I can open in a separate tab no problem.

Hi,
So you click on link in a post and it does not close the current window, but opens a new tab.

Right click and open in new tab or use the centre wheel on your mouse if it has that option.
Re: Opening Hyperlinks
If you have a centre (clickable scroll wheel) button, you can use that to click on a link and open in a new tab - at least you can in IE running Windows 7 (I do at work) and in Firefox, Chromium, Opera, Arora and Midori browsers in Linux Mint (I just did at home).
