How to search for threads on the Old Forum

Post by Mick F »

I have a thread on the Old Forum called "Mowing the Lawn" to do with trying to ride all the roads in Cornwall by backtracking and doing each and every road. The idea came to me when I was mowing the lawn trying to get to every bit of it.

It dates back to 2006 I think.
Before we updated this forum, I could find it by typing into Google ..........

"Mowing the Lawn" site:forum.ctc.org.uk ............... and up it would come.

All I get now is:
viewtopic.php?p=52640
............. with a link to my old thread ............ but it's broken.

I last posted on it about a year ago, but I can't get at it now.
This also means that none of the old threads are available any more.

Is this true, or is there another way of finding these old threads?

It doesn't look like a search problem - Google seems to have everything else re-indexed, and I can't find your thread by searching within the forum, which would be why Google hasn't indexed it. Can you still see it?

This forum as it was until recently couldn't search in the Old Forum at all, but Google could as the threads were sill there.
It now seems that Google can't find them now, so I wonder if they still exist.

It's a damned pity if they are deleted because there was some good stuff on there back then.

My profile states that I joined in Jan 2007.
I joined a few years before that, but when the New Forum started, they wiped the slate clean and we all started again. There's quite a few of us on here from the Old Forum days.

As I said, Google could find the old threads even up until recently ........... but not now.

Did quite recently include after the site's URL change? With luck, the old stuff is still there but just needs glueing back into the hierarchy. Hopefully an Admin will be along to investigate.

Following that link I get a post by nobby in 2007 which includes ...
nobby wrote:... Well, I've finally read all 5 pages. Excellent comments from the others from wool to rugby to sex to trains and an occasional mention of roads, rivers and the Holy Scriptures. Very happy that the moderators didn't shut down the jokes ...

The link in nobby's post to the "Mowing the Lawn" thread returns "The requested topic does not exist." A different message "You are not authorised to read this forum" is returned for threads that exist in the sin bin unavailable to us mortals which Spambusters can still read.

My guess (nothing more) is that it has been deleted in it's entirety, perhaps some of the jokes were subsequently reported to the moderators. I believe that a similar fate befell charlie the cat's Trivia Tree which contained much political incorrectness.

I've tried on the Wayback Machine without success. If anyone else wants to have a go it's worth noting that the pre-2007 forum address was http://www.ctcforum.org.uk

........... and another bit ..........

I rode LEJOG and Back in 2006, and much of the pre-amble to my ride was on the Old Forum.

Yes, I have the info on my blog http://lejogandback.blogspot.com so all is not lost.

The Old Forum is gone and deleted.
Unless someone can find it?

Sorry, this is WRONG.
Some of the stuff goes away and never to be found again.

........... and another thing ............

Someone mentioned Gareth Howell otherwise known on here as Gar, or Beep Beep, or Handling Harry.

Where are his posts now?
Not that I liked him or even want to converse with him, but he was a prolific poster with lots to say regarding disabled cycling.

I've no reason to think so. Selected parts may have been individually culled.

Almost all of the remaining parts of the old forum can be found starting about 10 posts down from the top of the results returned here: search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&author_id=1&start=13260

Searching for individual posts within them isn't so easy.

I'm still searching.
Maybe I've been posting on two threads at a time
.................... but I'm still scratching my head about this.

Question:
Why are some threads find-able pre January 2007, and some threads have completely disappeared?
