Is there a key to the symbols used on the forum? On the left of each thread in the listings there is a circle with lines in. What is it doing there and what is the meaning of it when it's scrolling?

The forum is an "out of the box" software package from phpbb, with Cycling UK logos and other small tweaks.
Various icon symbols, colours and animations tell you if a topic is unread, a "hot topic", locked thread, etc.
