Adjusting photos

In the for sale section, there is a helpful sticky about uploading photos.

Because the limit is 256k there is also a helpful 'how to' link.
Unfortunately that link seems to have expired.

Just thought that I would let you know.

I used flickr instead.

Sorry, just reread my post.
I wasn't clear.

In the thread there is a link that is meant to take you to a Microsoft page to explain how to resize your photos.
That is the link that seems to have expired.

Yes and I should have read that page. As an IT numpty, my recommendation for resizing a picture to post is to edit it in Paint, which seems to come free with Windows and even I find easy. :D

The link would once have taken you here.

Since XP has also expired*, this thread may be more useful.

Good spot, flagged to mods.

*I've no doubt some of us have nailed it to the perch.

Thanks.
I am having all sorts of fun trying those things.
I shall have to try again another time when I have more time. I didn't expect that to be so time consuming.
I keep reducing the % in paint but it just gets smaller and smaller and still refuses to go below 300kb.
I have tried reducing it via lightroom.
It states that I can export it limiting the size to anything i like, so I put in 250kb but LR
tries to do it but decides that it can't reduce it to 250kb.

I shall have to stick to links to flickr this time I guess.

That's my first option anyway, simpler and you can link one photo to an album for more detail.

For some reason that's not at all clear to me, that thread has been locked, so it doesn't allow anybody to add to the collective wisdom by posting when there are developments. :(

However, thanks once again to gaz for his much-appreciated efforts in explaining IT in English. :D

The thread first referred to was "Uploading Images", which contains the broken link.

In messaging the mods my intention had been that the thread remained in place, with the broken link replaced by a link to the "Reducing a photo file size" thread.

Something was lost in translation as the UI thread has been replaced with the RaPFS thread as a sticky on the For Sale, etc. boards. I cannot recall whether either thread was locked beforehand.

I doubt that many people have difficulty uploading images once they've adjusted them to the right size so I wasn't worried about the switch.

The only way I can post photos are by setting my camera to the smallest recording resolution, 0.3 megapixels.
The files are always then small enough to simply drag from my desktop into the ad.
fausto.

If you are using Windows, download the free FastStone Photo Resizer. It's only 1.4MB and works on anything from XP onwards. It is simple to use and as the name suggests, very fast!

I have unlocked it. I'm not sure why it was locked, either.
