I tried reducing 1% 3 times (so reducing the reduced reduced file), it seems to bottom out at 275/276kb (different name each time, so can keep track of them, and the original).
In case I got my % the wrong way round, I tried 99% which did about as much as a straight through 14-18t 5 speed freewheel!
Mystified!

A reduction to one-hundredth of the original image size should not be needed unless your original image was HUUUUUGE!

I think you're probably saving the image in an un-compressed format. Don't save as a BMP, save as a JPEG.

It is a .jpg file, started off as 3.28MB. It gets to 275kb, but further reduction has no effect (I think because the "dimension" is 1x2, so goes no smaller).
I reduced by %, not by pixels, would reducing by pixels make any difference?

I can't imagine that reducing by pixels is going to make any difference but so long as you keep the original and save the reduced copies under different file names you've nothing to lose by trying.

Re: Resizing iPad photos (to less than 256 Kbytes)

Post by admin »

I've modified the Forum code so that uploading images is much easier. :)

You can now large upload image files up to 5 megabytes in size (should be enough for most digital camera JPEG files) and the images will be re-sized automatically on the server to a smaller size to preserve disk space.

I haven't been able to test this on an iPad, so if anyone could give it a go and let me know if it works or not, that would be useful.

Lovely, resized down to 205.97KiB on the server, no trouble. Thanks for testing! :)

I detect a small issue  .

Picture taken on a phone, displays correct way up when transferred to PC. Rotating the pic before uploading has no effect. I'm aware that somewhere in the file code there's a "this way up" section.

Ha ha! Been there and been doing that, Air Cooled naturely. Finally got it safe and going nearly properly and looking forward to using it next year when the Mrs's spinal fractures allow.
