Wobbly Bog Brush!

Post by CyclingGuy »

I have an Apple tablet device but I can' use it's name on this forum because every time I type the name of it (eye pad) the forum displays it as 'Wobbly Bog Brush'

Has anyone else come across this?

Here's an example -

And using Google I found a number of other threads that have the same in them.

Interestingly if you search for WBB using the search box for the forum the only result is my post, not the other threads.

After doing some Googling it looks like this is the only forum using phpBB exhibiting this behaviour.

I think it's something to do with the auto-correct for spammers.

Iphone
Is what I get when I write the name of my device now.
A couple of weeks ago it was a different correction.
Has the spell checker got it in for apple?

It's not right. What one writes should be what appears on the screen surely.
Bog brush is not serious but it does amount to something approaching automated censorship.

Why apple stuff?
Is this commercial espionage?

One can only suggest the lump hammer; or a shot-put of the pesky gizmo into the landfill, where it can commune with the other 3,582,639,032 devices now superseded by another one destined for the same fate.

Think of the bike bits you could've acquire with all that dosh you spent on bluddy gizmo! Think of all the bike rides you could have done rather than stabbing a finger anxiously at the demanding wee techno-devil glued to your paw!!

It has crossed my mind - the lump hammer.

Though seeing as I was given it the bike bits aquired would be zero.
It is a bit more than just a gizmo, IMV.
A veritable box of tricks.

Typed with the thumb!!

The keypad is dire though.
Who thought a "qwerty" keypad designed for ten finger typing was a good idea on such a tiny space.
Nuts.

The suto correction going on here is by the forum software.
It is rather odd.

Yes, rather odd.
I suggest Admin doesn't know about this, as it's probably an aspect of the forum software.

I'll raise the issue with the mods.

Seems rather odd and pointless, though I expect it's to do with anti-spam.

Any way of stopping this so people can write about their Apple product?

Apologies for that. A slightly mismatched word-replacement formula intended to take the mikey out of the auto-generated T.a.p.a.talk spam message.

Now corrected. . . . ( EDIT - I hope )

Yes it's corrected and not before time IMV.
It had surfaced before.

Even more interesting to some of us sceptics is that all the errors shown upthread have now been corrected/ changed.

So at the pressing of a couple of keys a whole raft of words can be altered?

It is my view that changing something from that which was written by the poster/author is a dangerous infringement of personal rights.
Especially if that change is not notified.

The consequences could be very far reaching. IMHO

What a shame i enjoyed the uncorrected version. Cant we have it back as it was. We could have a thread of auto correct humour. Ive had some of my posts auto corrected in the past which made nonsense of what i had written.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

Yes. A forum seach for the word that is subsituted to micturate will produce different results to a forum search for the word micturate. It was ever thus.
