I may not have mastered the system but if I start a post with a selective quote it gives me the whole thing. But I can then edit it down to what I want.

But if I'm within a post that I've already started I can then selectively quote bits of other posts.

The easiest way is to copy what you want to quote <Ctrl> + C, then paste it into your own post <Ctrl> +V then highlight it then hit <Quote> which on my version of the forum in 4th button across on the POST A REPLY screen.

The only shortcoming with that method is that it doesn't name the author.

Very good, some posts are a bit too long
Please use dots .. to indicate that text has been omitted
Please do not change (italicised, bold) the texts

Thanks. I didn't know that workflow.

The basic syntax ( which you can type yourself ) is :-

Code: Select all
Some text . . .
giving
Some text . . .

WIth attribution

Code: Select all
Some text . . .
giving

Click on the 'Post Reply' button to create a blank reply. Scroll down to see previous posts. Select the particular piece of text you wish to quote, then click on the quote (") button at the top right of the post containing that text. The text will be imported into the new blank post and will include attribution.

But don't feel bad if the above method doesn't work for you. It may mean your browser is secure.

When you think it's all ok, it's worth using the Preview facility before submission. Once you start editing quotes, especially if their are quotes within quotes, it can be easy to make a mistake that's not obvious on the POST A REPLY screen. It's generally easier to get it right then, rather than trying to recover it later when you may feel under a bit of pressure.

Unless you explain your problem more precisely, I cannot offer more than on your earlier thread
