Information Message
Information Message
This message is annoying me.
It stays for a second or two, and whilst there I can't do anything.
Not long, I admit, but I want to click through the interesting stuff and move on, clearing the pages as I go.
Is it possible to not have this message?
Yes, I know there's an X on the top right, but it's tiny, so it would take me as long to get the mouse pointer on it than to wait for it to go.
Please remove this.

Never ever seen that. Mind I’ve never read everything either.
Whatever I am, wherever I am, this is me. This is my life

Re: Information Message
I get that too, but I think (must try again, consciously) I just click and carry on and the box disappears.
Re: Information Message
You can't click on anything until the box goes.
Hit the X which takes as long as it takes for the box to go on its own.
It's only a second or so, but it's still annoying.
Pointless too.

PS:
Yes, I can click anywhere on the page and the box disappears, but the screen freezes and needs a re-load.

Re: Information Message
It's one of those Catch 22s
This feature has been there forever - or at least for as long as I can remember. It confirms that the instruction has been executed. Had it disappeared in in the recent update or another, it would have been one of those indispensable features to be reinstated as a matter of urgency. IMO

Re: Information Message
I've never seen it before until this update.
If you want it, and I don't, perhaps it should be a setting in the User Control Panel.

Re: Information Message
If you have never seen it before, then you have seen it now after performing an action you have not done before. I usually start with the "unread posts." When I've done, which usually includes leaving some unread, I click to mark all as read and it confirms that on that screen. for a couple of seconds. ie not that information message.
I think, but I'm not sure, that the information message only comes up if you mark all read from the index screen.
Here's what it looks like for a couple of seconds if you do it from the unread posts screen. Same info, displayed in a different manner

Re: Information Message
My methods are different.
I look at the whole forum and go to each message board in turn top to bottom.
As I check it all out, some of the threads I'm not interested in and mark the MB read.
Then, move to the next message board etc etc.
By only looking at unread posts, I can't see what's going on generally, or the alerts and newbies up for approval.
I could go to the Moderator Control Panel and see the alerts and the approvals queue right at the beginning, and I do that if I'm only checking in for a quickie.
I still say, I've never seen that information panel before this update.

And I am sure you are right.I still say, I've never seen that information panel before this update.
Re: Information Message
I suspect making such a change means changing the code which makes the whole system a lot lot harder and much more work to maintain or upgrade (which means costs, delays, etc.).

Re: Information Message
That's because you were one of the few people using the very-old subsilver2 theme, sadly no longer supported since the release of phpBB 3.3.
The information popup arrived when phpBB 3.0 came out in 2007 with prosilver as the default theme, replacing the subsilver default theme from phpBB 2.0 (released in 2002).
Re: Information Message
Thanks for that, but it's still annoying me and making me not use the facility.
I actually don't know what it's for. What purpose does it serve?
