Sales methods - should prices be included?

This bike has been my favourite for light and quick tarmac riding for more than 20 years (until I went carbon!). I've changed a few things since the review for Cycle magazine (read it here) and it's been the review 'clotheshorse' for each succeeding generation of Shimano road componentry. Yep, I liked that test bike so much, I bought it!
<snip>
So to the sale. In a few days' time, I will put the bike on Ebay, but I'd like to give friends of CTC first dibs. PM me your offer and if anyone can better what I think I might get elsewhere...

I don't think it's on eBay yet?
Re: 58cm THORN AUDAX - Chris Juden's 1997 review model
Correct Bonefishblues. I'm giving this forum first dibs. Think of it as a sealed bid auction. Send me your best offers by Private Message before Saturday 17 April and if I like one of them enough I'll not even put it on Ebay.
If I don't like any of your offers: I put it on Ebay and take the risk of selling it for even less. That way you might get a bargain, but obviously not if it goes for more.

This is inappropriate on someone’s for sale post - I would remove.martin biggs wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 5:12pm This a nice example on the bay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thorn-Audax- ... Swx-9gYzS2

Since the OP is asking for sealed bids, pointing to ways to ascertain value seems very reasonable.markjohnobrien wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 6:12pmThis is inappropriate on someone’s for sale post - I would remove.martin biggs wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 5:12pm This a nice example on the bay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thorn-Audax- ... Disagree: as it could be seen as undermining someone’s sale as some potential buyers may be tempted by the other link.Cyril Haearn wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 7:04pmAgree, I has speculated on a similar priceroubaixtuesday wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 6:49pmSince the OP is asking for sealed bids, pointing to ways to ascertain value seems very reasonable.markjohnobrien wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 6:12pm

It’s not reasonable as anyone can do their own online research without posting on here.

Just trying to show a similar bike's value seeing as the op won't put a price up which is a shame if you ask me

Fair enough - it’s your sale post (and thread).

"What is my bike worth?" is a question I never answered as CTC Technical Officer, so I'm not about to start now. IMHO an item is worth as much as someone will pay for it. End of.martin biggs wrote: ↑11 Apr 2021, 7:32pm ...the op won't put a price up which is a shame if you ask me

Indeed - absent firm rules on the Forum (unlike many/most, I'd say), then it's up to the OP to manage their thread in partnership with the Mods I think. I made a comment on a for sale post - a pretty innocuous one too, and got a thoroughly offensive (but actually rather hilarious ) PM from a would-be thread vigilante telling me what sort of person I was.

May one ask how much you paid for it in 1997?
