Odd forum software behaviour

Post by ClappedOut »

Notification for a thread which doesn't exist and reappears with no moderator interaction so not posts pruned etc.

Unsubscribe from a thread and still get notified of posts, subscribe again and unsubscribe to reset issue.

Other than posting issues I'm using Chrome browser

Thanks

Which thread number? It's the number after "t=" in the URL.

I can look in the database to try and work out what's going wrong.

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=145859

I didn't see anything contentious and I can't see any moderator post removals, but as you can see it notified me of new posts and then says topic doesn't exist-which clearly it does.
Thanks

That topic exists, and there is a link between it and your account to be notified. So the fact that you were notified makes sense.

What is the URL of the page that says "The requested topic does not exist"?

You should be able to unsubscribe from topic notifications for this topic by going to your User Control Panel (click on your username top-right, then User Control Panel in the drop-down menu) and then "Manage subscriptions" on the "overview" tab.

Clicking on the topic returns topic does not exist, clearly it does. I wondered if notification should say "post does not exist"
It's the link about "what did you do to your bike today"

The unsubscribe issue separately I have watched various threads and unsubscribed and still got notifications when you visit the thread if you go subscribe and then unsubscribe it seems to fix it.

Almost like gui and database issue, unless my browser doing something odd.

Maybe a bug report to forum software company?

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=145859 which we agree does exist, but if clicking on the notification it tells me it doesn't.

Is it because it should say post doesn't exist not the thread doesn't exist?

The URL must be different for the "The requested topic does not exist" page.

An educated guess suggests it was this one: viewtopic.php?p=1609053#p1609053

Ah, yes, the "new topic" notification links are to the forum and topic (f and t numbers) while the "you were quoted" notifications link to the specific post (p number).

So the post you were notified about had been deleted, even though the topic still exists.
