Notify messages ...

Post by robgul »

These messages are not working consistently - I have a number of "notify" threads - some advise, some don't - likewise the PM system should send a "You have a PM" e-mail message .. it doesn't.

These are standard features in the BB s/w ...

(I have a "notify" set on this thread . . . we'll see whether it works or not . . . )

You've had a previous thread on this subject: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=80695

I only raise that in case you haven't yet checked if your PM box is full. I've no further technical knowledge on the matter.

 If nothing else this is a reply to test out the notification function.

The email notify for this thread DID work with your message quoted here - but two other threads that I have set to Notify did not do so this evening.

PM box is only 11% full ... and it NEVER notifies as it should.

... and it's not spam filters - we're running the server ourselves and all filtering is in the end-user e-mail client s/w

It's just very flaky ..... but then it is a charity

Notifications work fine for me, and admin checked that notifications were being sent to your email address. I was just going to post that the most likely explanation was your mail server filtering them. But then, you posted that you run your own server...

It is still possible that your ISP is filtering them. Check with them. Some ISPs will allow customers to set some filtering parameters. I lost some emails for a while when my ISP upgraded software and reset all of my filtering parameters to default without telling me. It took me a long while to figure it out.

The PM notification should send an email and also show a "pop up" ... it doesn't (I checked my profile settings again just now)

.... what is weird with the thread/post email notification is that it's inconsistent ... that obviously points to the source and not the recipient??

There is a thread in Announcements (about the HoE Meriden Rally) that I have on notify (I'm on the CTC HoE Cttee and monitor it for questions etc)

It doesn't send notify e-mails* ... is that because it's ring-fenced in Announcements rather being a general thread?

Rob

* Mick F made a post last night - it didn't notify

Just made another one too.
Any luck with that one?

I rarely use the "notify" thingy, only ever if I've been selling something. Every time I've used it, it's worked, but as I say, I rarely use it.
