How to edit a topic title?

We are asked to do it but not told how to, and I've tried for 5 mins and that's enough.

Just edit it to what you want.

Tried that. It edits the post, not the title of the topic.

I am able to edit the title of the topic, but the result only shows up on the post, not on the topic.

Oh. You need to edit the first post on the thread to change the topic title.

You might also find that if the thread has been merged or chopped up by the forum staff that the title will no longer change.......SW feature.

Thanks, that works.

Curiously this method edits the topic title as displayed on the list of topics, and it edits the topic title for the first post, but it leaves the topic title unaltered in all subsequent posts.

Indeed. The "Subject" is picked up from the preceding post, not the opening post.

Whilst it is editable respondents are unlikely to change it .
