Get a Flickr account, post the photos there, and then get the BB code for the picture sized as you wish and post into the 'post a reply' box.

Cutting Trees.jpg
This one is 1.7Mb in size, uploaded directly onto the forum.

What's the problem?

Get your photo on your desktop.
Select "Choose File"
Select your photo
Select "Add the File"
Watch a new window open with a progress bar.
When uploaded, click on your post where you want the photo to be, and select "Place Inline".

Job done.

Or ImageShack, or Photobucket. I've used both of them, they are free and they work fine.

I'll try another one.

The message in red writing says that the maximum size is 2Mb.

I'll reduce the size to 2Mb and try again.

I'll try and find one smack on 2Mb.

This one is bang on 2Mb on my computer, but somehow the forum has reduced it to 1.74Mb.

Click on it a couple of times to get a real close-up! :D

Sorry, I left this question hanging.

I don't know why you can only upload 256kb.
Sounds as though there's an interface thing going on.

I haven't got a clue why there are two standards.
Maybe some techy person can explain, but I've never had a problem in file size.

Actually, this is Scarborough !!

I've sussed out what the issue is.
It seems that I have special privileges when it comes to file size. It must be something to do with being a spambuster.

I have another username that I use for testing things as I can come in as a "normal" forum user, and I find that 256kb is what I'm allowed.

I shall raise this issue with the forum staff.

Meanwhile, I hope you liked my album.

For any ordinary forum user the limit is a tiny 256 kb, thats why you have the use a link via BB code to an image that is hosted on a site like Flickr. Otherwise, if we all had Mick Fs priveliges the CTCs web sites host machine would groan under Gigabytes of pictures. Have a look at Flickr.

I've raised it with the staff.
I personally wasn't aware of the 256kb limit.

The system wouldn't groan under the strain if the size was upped. If you think of all the zillions of photos on here since to forum began, a megabyte here or there wouldn't make any difference.

I think 256kb is mean and paltry. Maybe 2Mb is too much?
What about 750kb or 1Mb?
That would surely be enough and not cause any issues, plus folk would find it easy to upload.

Large files will make the forum slow to load for people accessing it with mobile devices.

It's better to use a secondary site to store large files and post the link or image here.

I don't agree at all.
When you load the forum, the picture files are small.

It's only when click on the file that the full sized photo is downloaded. In fact, it can take two clicks to get the full size.

Look at this screenshot of the photo of the three of us in Scarborough, and look at the size of it.
The original is 2Mb, but the small file (including extras) is only 200kb.
