I recently made the same point to my MP. If people associated with the left had done similar, Special Branch would have smashed up their headquarters by now. But it seems you won't be considered a threat to national security unless you have dreadlocks and nose rings.

NZ has too many sheep, maybe people could be imported to eat them down there

Come to think of it, many people who are fed up with GB/Europe might like NZ, no need to learn a new language to live there

Reading Captain Cook's biography at the moment. He saw lots of evidence of the NZ Maoris eating each other, sounds like a good strategy to solve the overcrowding problem (along with a nice bottle of Chianti...)

I remember Alf Garnett saying teh way to solve the food shortage and overpopulation problems in Africa would be to reintroduce cannibalism. Interesting to see you're on the same wavelength as Alf.

One positive aspect to Brexit seems that despite having been granted their wildest dream, the Conservative Party seem to be continuing to push themselves to self destruction. We now even have one of the favourite's to replace May accusing the Civil Service en-mass (or at least one department) of breaking the civil Service code; and in true Trump style not actually presenting any evidence of his allegations.

It's interesting but my motive in starting the thread was, apart from being something that concerns me, that we'd been seeing loads of threads on virtually the same political subject and that was annoying some forum members - so idea to keep it all in one thread.

Mostly it's working (but there are always some who are determined to start new threads!).

But at least I found something positive coming out of Brexit!

Well there's no exactly much changing to talk about really is there? Just a bemused watching of the continuing slow motion car crash.

The government continues to pretend some kind of fudge/double cake is possible while posturing to the more dedicated leave supporters in the tory party until reality/economics seems likely to me to force them into more of a swiss style faux leave arrangement, just as it did for phase 1.

The main question is if/when the hardliners get fed up of May, when that happens, things might get interesting. It probably needs to happen really else we're just going to sleepwalk into a worst of all worlds arrangement imo.

Radio/news is talking about the Conservative "Dream Team" of Mogg, Gove and Blobby. Dream? So Moggy, without any evidence can spend his time accusing the Civil Service of lies and deceit, Johnson can bumble around insulting those we will desperately need to be "on our side" and Gove can just buy a new set of blinkers and get on ignoring those who really do know their stuff (after a lifetimes specialist work).

And as for the £350m a week extra for the NHS ... well "dream on" is probably the right expression for that. That they can lie and deceive and then plan to run the country beggars belief.

They probably won't be able to which is why things will get interesting. May has been able to keep the Tory remain contingent mostly on board so far, I doubt a bojo, JRM etc 'dream team' will have the same success and you can't run a country without a functioning majority.

Whether you agree with her or not at least she can string a coherent sentence together on the subject.
Which is unusual!!

FWIW her assessment is very much like mine.
It really is such an awful mess now. :(

Dream Team" of Mogg, Gove and Blobby

Dream as in "A Dream on Elm Street" perhaps?

That such a grouping is seen as potentially saving the conservative party reveals much about how far out of touch the conservative party is.

But it's not just the ultra rightwing element, the whole party teaters on a cliff edge with May trying to please the unpleasable.
As Anne Sourby says if May does do something drastic about the ultra right element the ship will sink, but she won't be on it if it does.

They want power more even more than they hate each other. The ship will be low in the water but they will bail it just enough to keep it afloat.

Whilst the UK sinks around them.
