Autumn Weekend Warmth

Post by Heltor Chasca »

Absolutely no 'need' but I've lit our Mørso Squirrel wood burner. I'm having a moment thinking how great the Danes are....b

I feel duty bound to put in a word for Clearview wood stoves of Shropshire. British and beautiful. Well, to me at least.

Ours is an Aarrow multifuel stove.
Lit for nearly 12months a year and provides all our hot water and central heating, burning only the wood I cut myself.

I'm a Dowling fan,
http://www.dowlingstoves.com/
Whilst I have a Dowling Aztec more than 30yrs old during which time I've burnt out an Arrow and an Efel which I've recently replaced with a Dowling Hybrid with the option of solid fuel as my wood supply dwindles.

Check out their videos where they try to destroy a Hybrid stove. Great fun!

............. and the last few days it's been in the high teens centigrade by the afternoons, but in the shade it's remained VERY cold, especially in the mornings. Out on Friday morning for a ride. Wooly hat, thermal tights, thick windproof top. Initially, I wished I'd worn gloves.

Also, the humidity has been so low and the wind so dry and brisk, there's been one heck of a wind-chill.

Rain later today, so it should warm up a bit.

Warm and sunny today here, the opposite of the forecast. I went out for a ride in shorts, not usual for me in October...

Wood burning is not very good for the environment, unfortunately.
But a nice fire is very pleasant on a winter's evening. So we do put an open fire in very occasionally, for a treat. (We have to have the option as we sometimes get/got long power cuts in the winter and there is no gas here.)

Who's environment?

Some us us own woodland with "weed" trees everywhere. We cut them down and heat our homes with them.

Some of us can't have gas or get oil delivered.
