Street Art

Post by rjb »

We've had Bridges, Churches, Lighthouses and more that I can't recall at the moment. How about a thread on Street Art, murals, graffiti, whatever you find.
I'll start the ball rolling with this depiction of Glastonbury Tor, painted on an end of terrace house in Glastonbury, just off the pedestrian high street. It's pitched the locals who want to keep it against the council who want it removed!

At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway X2, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

Incredible!
I love street art when it's done well, some of the best I've seen was in Portugal when we were there some year back.

Route 1 cafe 5.jpg

A much photographed sheep in a N-Yorks moor bus stop. Sadly someone added a very poor triangular figure which has spoiled it somewhat.

A picture of the late Sylvia Plath with a modern tourer curiously, in Hebden Bridge. This mural and others were done by ' Stewy ' for the Tour, there's one of

David Hockney riding an old Post Office bike in Keighley. Shame about the tags over the top.

Colin,

It is a pity that less talented individuals have to 'tag' over the original work thus spoiling it.

+1 and shows their need for identification much similar to dogs piddling on lamposts to mark their territory, such is lack of feeling of worth.
Pretty sad all round when you think about it :?

It is a shame right enough.

For me, images painted on exterior walls are something associated with run-down urban environments. Seeing one makes me feel threatened, like I am in a potentially hostile place. So if anyone suggested painting one on a wall around here I would not want it.

I suspect it depends what is painted and what the rest of space is like.

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

William+Barbarella.jpg
Gunnislake village, William is a sculpture created by a local artist of a "tinner" - tin miner.

He's named after Williamstown, the original name of Gunnislake.

That looks like he could just get on the bike and ride it away Mick, I like those seated figure sculptures.

I think the headless manikins would struggle getting this bit of street art in Leeds moving. Note the high inertia stand,

comfortable looking seat though.
