Whilst trying to catch wels you spend a lot of time dreaming on account of the fact that they are so darn difficult to catch.

After a busy set of nights it is easy to catch up on sleep on the lake.

Anyway, no more about fishing or the moderators will be onto me.

'73? 'Foyles,The Greatest Bookshop in the World' ( sic ). Running Poetry and Classics, and chasing the little Swedish girl assistant around the department! She was lovely, but you had to get used to fishy breath!

1968 seems to be the year in question at the moment, a 'year of revolutions'. In '68 I was in the RAF, serving Her Majesty in Bomber Command at the height of the Cold War. Ah, those were the days! Anihilation with a four minute warning!

Mick F. What a great photo, full of youth and hope for the future. How fantastic to be young, in love, and the future ahead of you. Why can't we be young forever?

Yes.
Wouldn't it be nice.

Getting back to this thread and reading it after quite a while, has made me smile inwardly and give me a glow.
We have a great team of people here, happily chatting away and swapping memories.

Love it!

I was in 6th form at Wath Grammar School (South Yorkshire), spent the summer holidays working as a dining hall porter at Butlins Filey.

Wasn't a rather precocious Wm Hague at Wath Comp around then?

(PS welcome, and you've unearthed a good thread.)

Excellent!
Here's another from Way Back When.

Motorbike.jpg
This is of Mrs Mick F's dad and her younger sister in 1970 or possibly 1969 in Burscough, Lancs.

Yes little Willy Hague was at Wath, a few years behind me though. I can't say I remember him, but my mate Steve failed his A levels and stayed on for another year to retake them and took great pleasure in repeatedly sending young William to the back of the dinner queue. I know he wasn't exactly popular, being a Tory in the heart of the Yorkshire Coalfield.....

That looks like a double adult/child sidecar, the motorcycle combination equivalent of a family car. Could that be a prefab in the background?

Spot on with the transport!
It was the only transport they had in those days. All of that side of the family were bikers. Mrs Mick F's dad never passed a car test, so drove Reliants from mid 1971 onwards. He was 6ft 5in and mother-in-law was a little barrel, so they were quite a sight climbing in and out of a three-wheeler!

The pre-fab behind, is next door's garage.
