r2, yeah !
One of my regrets is not seeing Steve Marriot back then, me and a mate travelled down to The Torrington in Finchley to see him in S.M's Back Pocket (or Packet of Three), can't remember which,
but the gig was sold out. Cracking singin' all round there on that one, looking pretty cheeky with the backing singers too !
Never quite took to The Band, good though they are, love The Staples Singers though especially Pop's
easy delivery. I've got this on the shelf somewhere.

I was never one for going to gigs, but I do like Marriot's voice and some of the Small Faces and Humble Pie's stuff :)

The Band slayed me the first time I ever heard them,Rag Mama Rag I think.
Levon Helm's voice hits the spot everytime I hear it,Garth Hudson's fantastic piano and Robbie Robbertson's minimalist guitar with their other quirky arrangements and story songs always please,The Weight never ever gets old for me :D

I can't say I've ever listened much to the Staple Singers, perhaps I should

Won't be anybody's cup of tea, I expect, but Green Gartside's splendid attention to detail and penchant for high recording levels... if Miles Davis thought he was good, who am I to disagree?! Shoots me straight the '80s and even nudges Trevor Horn to one side.

As I get older I find myself going back to my Prog roots. I’m playing my way through my back catalogue of Yes albums, with Close to the Edge and Relayer being my favourites. There was a little known band called Druid, who emerged in the mid-seventies and I find their second album Fluid Druid excellent.

Something that annoys me is the BBC sounds app. This now isn't compatible with my tablet and has stopped working. Why can't you download programmes to a pc and transfer them to a MP3 player. If you have a new phone with the app this is not a problem. Anyone know of a simple work around.?
My current favourite is Pergolesi Stabat Mater. 8)
And I have been digging out my old vinyls too, anyone remember a Welsh band called Budgie from the 70's.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

I don't remember much about them, but I did go and see them at the Music Machine in Camden with a Welsh mate of mine. I just remember them as a good live band. I think one or some of the band members was living in Letchworth at the time. I see from the Wiki page they did a come-back gig in my old school hall there. They sound a good band listening to this.

Or it might have been possibly have been fellow rockers Man, living in Letchworth, 'twer a long time ago.

Budgie were earlier adopters of Roger Dean as album cover designer - one of the things I miss about 12" vinyl... Am fond of Pergo's Stabat Mater, wot I got on Deustche Grammophon - LSO Claudio Abado. That Jesus & his family inspired a lot of nice music.
Fave of the month is Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour, all 100 epsiodes. Varied dip into whatever he fancies, based on theme of the hour - coffee, the weather, money, yadda, yadda - absolutely fabulous intro to the Modern Amercian Songbook, full of surprises and some old faves, too of course. And that voice!
