..and as if we didn't need any more evidence of how nasty the whole business is getting: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/201 ... pub-london
Of course it isn't proved that this was a far-right inspired hate crime, but the evidence points to it.
Owen Jones's only 'crime' is that of being a confirmed left-winger and anti-Brexit journalist. Are all others who speak out going to get the same treament?
I'm not sure that Jones should be described as simply an 'anti-Brexit journalist'. He has spent a lot of time arguing that the referendum should be respected - and provoked a lot of remainy criticism for his trouble. If it was a targeted attack, it could have been for his sexuality, his politics, or for the newspaper that employs him.
It's likely the perpetrators couldn't articulate exactly what they find offensive about him - at least if they are anything like the group who targeted the socialist bookshop. In that case, they filmed themselves struggling to comprehend the titles in stock and thinking of how the contents might be disgusting (displaying a worrying obsession with paedophilia). The world must be a bewildering place for them.
