Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'
Hi,
Not being much of a politician (me)
It would appear that the EU spend much time now discussing taxes (avoidance / moving office to another country to avoid), dept, and more, but between themselves.
Now you could say that we are out the picture, even thou soft brexit will see us doing their work at our cost and collecting their taxes
But their countries were failing (pre brexit) through none collection of taxes and still are.
They didn't really need us to moan about leaving.
Get on with it

Remind me again how much HMRC failed to e.g. colelct from Vodafone

Parliamentary committee examines claims that waiving tax bill of up to £7bn was outside HM Revenue and Customs's powers
etc., etc.. We all know them all so I'm not going to bother listing them here - just a good job that things like only happen in the other EU countries and NOT in the UK

Hi,
OK so all of us are up to tax avoidance, probably goes with territory of high finance and politics.
But I do get the picture that the other EU countries were already on the rocks.
Like I said we are out, hopefully soon and they can moan amongst themselves.
Soft or hard brexit, who nows now...

Confronting tax avoidance requires more international co-operation, not less. But it was the UK government (under Cameron) that obstructed the EU's earlier plans to tackle off-shore trusts - and it has been suggested that the EU's stance was the primary motivation for Brexit among its cheerleaders.

Yes.
Quite so.
That is what I believe to be true.

That plus to end any namby-pamby profit damaging nonsense about "human rights". Brexit cheerleaders really do not give a damn if the poor and disabled die in the gutter or if TU "agitators" are imprisoned, tortured and shot. No rights written down in good ol' UK.....

Total hypocrite.
Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'
Indeed total
What I would like to ask Lawson is:
The University of Cambridge receives the majority of its research funds from the EU given that, why is it a good thing that were leaving?
The European Medicines Agency http://www.ema.europa.eu/ema/ is based in London its an EU institution so it will leave when we leave, to go to Amsterdam, over 3000 scientists are based and work in accreditating drugs including cancer drugs to EU citizens, when we leave on evidence recently given by the UK's leading cancer specialist there will be a delay in the UK receiving cancer drugs from the EU due to the fact that the UK will have its own regulatory regime which will necessitate delays around 6 months in cancer drugs being available in the UK if they are accredited in the EU first, given that, why is it a good thing that were leaving?

It’s now almost two years since the flawed referendum, and I’ve yet to hear one benefit of Brexit. It’s not even the “will of the people” any more according to opinion polls, not that 37% of the electorate was ever a majority.

I guess not.
He has stated it pretty openly here though.

No pun intended!

I agree in what you're saying, but Brexit never has been the "will of the people",
it was and merely is the will of the Tory rightwing Government and UKIP.
Re: ** The Brexit Thread ** - 'Brexit Means Brexit'
Why was the referendum flawed?
It was a straight A or B question, and the majority of the people who bothered to vote, voted to leave.
Me included. Sooner out the better as far as I'm concerned.
The other people who voted would have their own opinions.
Dunno what would have happened if the vote was split exactly 50/50 ........... but it wasn't.
Some folk thought it was a shock result though I thought it was a foregone conclusion, but was surprised that it was so close.
Maybe the people who voted to stay in, think it was a flawed referendum?
