As an ex-state employee, I have something to say about it.

The defence budget is not just for hardware ships and tanks etc but for all the pay and allowances as well as pensions. From what I remember, it's about 10% of the whole defence budget.

The "golden goodbye" is part of the pension system. You can have a bigger one by forfeiting some of your annual pension until it's paid off. Also, servicemen and women pay income tax too.

No doubt ex MPs have something like this, but we had to serve a minimum of 22years to get any pension.

The point is an MP is in a fixed term job until the next election when he may or may not be re-elected. If he isn't he's entitled to a payment of at least £65,000 even though he may have served as an MP for less than five years.
NA seems to be confusing this with pensions some of which may pay a lump sum on retirement. The man seems to have a bee in his bonnet about public sector pensions - possibly out of envy. From what he's said here he hasn't much of a pension himself even though he claims to have been a businessman - presumably not a very successful one otherwise he could have made provision for a decent pension.

How much does a backbencher earn per annum?

80grand plus expenses I believe.
£65,000 is less than a year's salary.

That's in addition to any pension he may be due from the job when he reaches retirement age and it's considerably more than the statutory redundancy payment which an ordinary employee gets. That's one weeks wage for each year worked up until 40 and one and a half weeks for each year after 40. It's capped at 20 years and £525 a week. The maximum statutory redundancy payment is £15,750 which would be for someone with 20 years service after the age of 40. Of course some employees get more generous terms as part of their contract and/or redundancy negotiations.

To be fair and honest, I have not ben able to afford a bike for about twenty years because I invested in my own business rather than carry on blowing money on toys.
But for a few years now I have been offered a new bike two years running by my long suffering partner :)
I declined because I have several bikes and two three even quality machines, a new bike would do nothing for my wellbeing, I am happy with what I have.
I have so many spares and a lot of quality stuff too that I will never need to buy anymore parts for the rest of my life, save maybe a few chains and spokes.
I never road tested any of my bikes including half a dozen new motorcycles, but I am a very picky buyer, also back then a bike appeared and would go very quickly from the shop, as shops back then were small at least where I live.

That seems to indicate that you're happy with what you've got, which is how I feel about staying in the EU,I'm happy but it needs some tinkering with to get it as good as it can be,whereas starting from scratch ie;looking around the many bike shops for something better, only to find that anything as good as I've got I can't afford and what's available in my price range is not as good as what I already have.
As a foot note to that.
On the varied terrain that's available to cycle on,to enjoy cycling best, the bike needs to be as versatile as possible and I believe the EU bicycle offers the best versatility in that varied terrain.
You OTOH seem to be willing to throw caution to the wind and jump on a bike untested, unseen and recommended by liars and shysters!

The other neet, I watched that "School for Scoundrels" filum with Terry Thomas, Ian Carmichael and Alistair Sim. At one point the main protagonist, who is a bit of an easily-led softlad, is sold a weird olde ex-maharaja's car rather like chitty-chitty bang-bang gone rotten. The two scoundrel salesman (played by Dennis Price and Peter Jones) apply every lie-mode trick in the car salesman's book (and they do have such a book) to sell the ancient car to the dupe.

I was reminded of yer typical Tory, seeing these oily car salesmen apply their "trade"........ Also of the people who have bought their future sunlit upland with added unicorn. (Sorry, faulty simile).

Taxation of the unborn.

Some are some aren't. The state pension is also unfunded and that is a much bigger strain on the taxpayer.

Even though I was working for a private sector employer I was, for various reasons, a member of the Cambridgeshire pension fund. This is certainly funded and seems in reasonable financial health. Here's a recent statement of finances. There are many other public pension schemes similarly well funded.

That link requires me to log in or register which I'm not prepared to.
It seems that you're quite bitter toward anyone who is a state employee and has an occupational pension as a result. So what do you propose and what has it to do with the EU other than EU top officials reasonable pensions and golden handshake.

You seem very much like a chap I used to work with who was also very bitter about me having a miners pension, even thought he was by his own admittion far wealthier than I could ever hope to be(through inheritances, aunt £200k drop, his and his wife's Fathers £150k drop, not counting their properties which were sold for a total of £400k and he whinged about having to pay stamp duty on one of the properties),needless to say he is an extreme rightwing Tory.
I don't begrudge him his money, but I do get quite annoyed when some whinge on about people joining a trade union which negotiates good pension arrangements for their members and which those workers pay into.
I'll put it to you that it isn't the working wo/man that's fleecing the system but those people at the top of the pyramid and the multinationals who aren't paying their fair share and in some cases nothing at all, thanks to loopholes designed specifically for those people and companies to drive a coach and horses through along with offshore investments that require no tax to be paid on at all, which the UKgovernment is complicit in keeping going.

And there are many private pension finds that go bust because the managers feel justified in taking advantage of good years to not pay into them, or to gamble with other people's money.

I've been on here saying that everyone I know wants to out of the EU.
Today, I heard that someone I know quite well wants to remain!
He's a mathematician, and only a day or so ago I was privvy to a conversation about reconciling bank accounts.

Story:
He showed a credit card statement and couldn't recollect that on two consecutive days a certain establishment had taken the exact same figure from his account.

Dunno about any of you lot, but I reconcile all our accounts, just like my mathematician friend does. I find it therapeutic and every now and again, I find an error. He did too.

He'd had seven pints of Bass one evening, and the next evening had another seven pints of Bass.
If I'd had seven pints of Bass, I wouldn't be drinking for a day or two.

............... and he wants to remain in the EU.
Are all remainers drunk?

If you're aiming to diss all Remainers, you can do better than that, Mick F!
