We have had a political casualty in Wales!
And a most welcome one too!

Andrew RT! Davies resigns for reasons not fully clear, though his criticism of Airbus management seems to be the main issue.

This is a man who said in Feb 2017:-
"Say Sorry for Brexit Warnings".

Maybe he should have listened more and spouted less.

I understand Mr Davies is a farmer I'm sure he is a good farmer and his farm contributes to the Welsh Economy But I doubt it contributes more than Airbus does:

'Wales is home to key parts of Airbus’ worldwide operations. The Company’s site in Broughton houses the assembly lines for wings for all Airbus aircraft, as well as procurement and management functions. In addition, its facility in Newport is a Defence and Space centre
specialising in cutting-edge cyber security and virtual reality techniques.
3.1.1 Direct impact
Airbus is one of the largest employers in Wales. In total, the Company employed nearly 6,500 people at its Welsh sites in 2015. This meant that Airbus was Wales’ second largest private sector employer.
The Company also makes a substantial direct contribution to Welsh GDP. In 2015, the wages it paid to its employees in Wales, and the profits it made on its operations in the nation, led it to make a direct value added contribution to Wales’ GDP of £563 million. That is equivalent to over five percent of the economic output produced in Cardiff in 2015.'

It's hard to see how one could combine the two?
A farmer and leader of the Welsh Tories?
Both part time? Half baked?

Certainly his pronouncments on Brexit were in my view absolute rubbish.

He is actually an agri businessman I think.

I personally don't think that necessarily makes him a "good farmer", quite possibly just the opposite.

Democracy innit? They'll get what they voted for and serve the buggers right. They'll no doubt expect the so called "elites" who voted remain to stump up for their dole money.

Andrew RT Davies's farm is in St Hilary, near Cowbridge, and is a family business, so other members of his family will be on site when he is not. You could see his income from his political career is a bit of diversification, just as other farmers get money from running B&Bs. The Welsh government buildings are a 30 minute drive from the farm.

Really?
Not that much of a work load being leader of the Welsh Tories then.
In some ways I suppose not a surprise!
Given the trite rubbish he has produced about Brexit in particular.

Still the (EU?)farm subsidies must be a help?

All in the past now and he can concentrate on maximizing profit from his family business.

Good riddance from the political scene.

I'm not especially keen on Mr Davies, but if you are not in Wales you probably know very little about him. Just snippets from here and there. Enough to form a caricature. In reality he is more interesting than the picture you present. He is (and this may surprise you) clever, articulate and mostly good humoured. He comes over as a farmer / businessman with a dislike of bureaucracy, which results in him having opinions that I don't always share. But he is not the idiot you imagine.

As for his combining of two jobs, I suspect the farming is confined to a bit of ploughing to wind down after the real work of the day, a bit like you and I might go for a ride to shake off the irritations of work. His commute to the Senedd will be remarkably short, so having a fifteen minute talk about heifers in a field with one of his family before going to work is probably something that he sees as pleasure rather than work. I see no problem with that.

I did not say he was an idiot.

I simply do not share his vision of Welsh farming and of Brexit- big time.

As for two jobs, well in my view there's too much of that about.
Let's all try to do one job reasonably well?

Troughing it and farming often go well together.

I repost my earlier link to his pronouncements of Feb 2017 in case you failed to read it.

His rather silly Brexit views seem to be why he's gone. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/poli ... s-14843554

Do you, on the other hand, see a problem with this Davis person (a) demanding that others not of his political persuasion cringe before him, and (b) crowing over successes that his political camp may or may not have attained?

I see in him more of an analogy with Peter Pan - the spoilt brat who "never grew up" and was much given to 'crowing' over his own accomplishments - as well as others' accomplishments which weren't actually his (if you haven't read the book, do so and you'll see what I mean...)

I suspect you're right. The man looks like a typical fat, unhealthy middle aged Tory boy. He wouldn't be like that with regular farm work.

You mean he spends his working life at a desk rather than out in the fields. Yes. He makes fun of his build anyway, so he got there before you. :D

He'd be better off doing something about it rather than joking. Greedy in eating as well as in politics.

I assume you extend that judgement to anyone else who is carrying excess weight.

That someone like that should do something about their weight - yes and almost all health professionals say the same. It's also costing the NHS a lot and the amount is predicted to rise as more and more get type 2 diabetes. That a belly like that comes from greed in food and/or drink - yes though of course not everyone with such a paunch will share his politics of greed.
