Zahnhausen: Solo Recorder Music played by Susanna Laurin. A bit obscure but how often do you hear contemporary music written for recorder?

I had player on random track play driving to supermarket and it came up with a few tracks that make me appreciate how "it could never be done these days" and how PC the west (or UK?) has become these days. Tracks were from "Monty Python Sings" album. Some great tracks but these days there's be quite an outcry to some of them. e.g.
Sit on My Face https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dax_tnZRExc
Pennis song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPkzkV1icWY
Medical Love Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfHCxIiZ_4M
Never Be Rude To An Arab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxsZN8_l7cc
I like Chinese https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxsZN8_l7cc

I must admit I found those entertaining..... but then again it depends on if you are the type of person who can separate wit/observation from offensiveness/racism/sexism etc. I think it was mentioned up thread about Ivor biggun and the red nosed burglars, winkers song( misprint ). Also derek and clive( pete and dud ) who clearly were well educated individuals who could produce this :-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTifRi3qDkU Many would faint at hearing this but it's pretty witty and to be honest I've heard many a similar conversation in real life...... there are people like this.

Benny hill played the chinese man whose pronounciation made the joke, Benny hill was a very humble, kind man in real life and I don't feel he had any racist intentions in the least...... but move forward 40yrs and many will contrive to make it appear he was.

I think the pythons, jonathon millers, pete and dud's really moved comedy to a new level.

Perhaps the background of them being middle class, oxbridge etc made them have that style of humour.

Some people are too ready to take offence these days. If you dismiss anything with a bit of prejudice in it you dismiss most of the past, and with it you lose all the good things. Better, I think, to make some allowance for the times things come from. Up to a point, of course. The "I Like Chinese" song is close to my personal limit. I did laugh at it. But I'd not play it in the presence of someone from a Chinese background.

Thinking aloud (so quite happy to change my thoughts when others point out shortcomings/alternatives but ...) to me it has always been more about intent rather than the sequence of letters used. If the intent is good humoured then I see no problem (and you can poke fun at people, myself included in a good humoured way). In my younger days we talked to people and were sensitive to interpreting their intent through more than the words used. Face to face interactions taught us about understanding non-verbal communication and meaning. These days with so much communication over internet with the "Send" button being pressed before much thought, I wonder if society has lost (or is losing) the ability to interpret intent.

e.g. in my day we "knew" what Monty Python and thus a song like Never Be Rude To An Arab https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxsZN8_l7cc was intended only to be humorous with no prejudice; often next song/sketch would focus on "true Brit" idiocy (e.g. Upper Class Twit of the Year". Everybody had fun poked at them and we understood the intent and accepted it. These days that ability seems lacking with too many either unable or unprepared to understand the intent or happy that they can use a deliberate mis-interpretation to pursue their own "campaign".

I've just been listening to ' Jazz Sebastien Bach ' by the Swingle Singers which I first heard in the early sixties, it still sounds

as fresh to my ears as it did then.

I've recently been listening to Pentangle,a band that I listened to in the late 60's early 70's a little,my appreciation of such fine musicians was rekindled a few years ago as I looked back, here's a couple of excellent tracks on YouTube :- https://youtu.be/SHjr91rnBoY

'Lifelines' by Andrea Corr. Probably the best 'covers' album I've heard.

Bowie: Always crashing in the same car.

Possibly controversial on this Forum, but I love it. It is one you listen to as much for the instrumentals as for the voice.

Regularly listen to Pentangle and their ilk. Impressed by Suede's latest album "The Blue Hour" imaginative, dramatic and some great singing.
