I think it's pretty awesome, but then I have always been a fan.

Good call ! Yes, a masterwork for sure, there's a link to it in the other 'what are you listening thread' on here. Who knows when, and even if, 'the never ending tour' will re-start.
Best Dylan cover ?
The Neville Brothers 'With God on Our Side' takes a bit of beating, Dylan employed Daniel Lanois to produce his next album (Oh Mercy) on the strength of this, and the 'Ballad of Hollis Brown' from their Lanois produced 'Yellow Moon' album.Their versions were the first time I had heard either of these songs.
One of my favourite albums, highly recommended, if you haven't already heard it.

Love it. Shakatak were mining a funkier but similarly smooth vein as Man' Tran'. in the UK a bit later, early in the 1980's. Birdland first, Shakatak's Night Bird second.

ah some one else has heard of her. Its shame that most of her LPs were badly mastered as she sang some fine songs. I do have some cd reissues I think some where.

Soldier Blue. ( title song to the film of the same name)

A brilliant song writer. In my mind she is up there with Dylan, Seeger, Paxton, Young et al. Just love 1960’s folk scene and the protest movement in particular. There were so many excellent artists still having a huge following today.

I understand from the wiki she was blacklisted that damaged her career

In the 1980s, that President Lyndon B. Johnson had been writing letters on White House stationery praising radio stations for suppressing my music" and "In the 1970s, not only was the protest movement put out of business, but the Native American movement was attacked."

As a result of this blacklisting led by (among others) Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, and Nashville disc jockey Ralph Emery (following the release of I'm Gonna Be a Country Girl Again), Sainte-Marie said "I was put out of business in the United States"

I spent many hours trying to find her LPs in 2nd hand stores. There was a fresh 2 LP reissue of her best songs that is about as good as you can get from LP ( many LPs were knackered by the time they found their way to 2nd hand shops :( having been played on Dansette type record players with 10 grm cartridges that regrooved the records)

Ry Cooder's California trilogy - Cachez Ravine, My Name Is Buddy & I, Flathead. From the liner notes for My Name Is Buddy:
Journey through time and space in days of labor, big bosses, farm failures, strikes, company cops, sundown towns, hobos, and trains... the America of yesteryear.

Great songs, wonderful harmonies - and that tone.

I'm a big fan of R'C's, the first LP I got of his was 'Bop Tilll You Drop' at the time of it's release , and which I believe was the first digitally recorded album, though issued on vinyl. I had/have most of his output before and since that, including 'The Rising Sons' release with Taj Mahal etc. I had the pleasure of seeing him live at Wembley Arena back in the 80's. I think Chavez Ravine is the best listen out of the three you mention, I'm not so keen on the other two.
I think my favourite of his work is 'Jazz', which paradoxically I don't think he was happy with. 'Big Bad Bill Is Sweet William Now' off of that album, his unusual, but good singing voice featured as well.

There was a video on youtube of him talking about his guitars, the Strat with the lap steel pick-up (or whatever it was, Oahu ?) which I can't find at the moment, he didn't seem to have much problem making
a National Resonator sing when I saw him, it's mostly in the head and hands I think, like all the greats.
I like his collaborative efforts more than his solo work, here he is with VM Bhatt 'A Meeting by The River'.

A pretty wide range of styles in these two links.
