Umm, the front line dealing with the needs, hopes, desires and wants of the general public. You, me and anyone from Joe Public coming into a library and looking for help or information. What on earth does the military have to do with this?

Frontline = those dealing directly with custoners
Back Office - those like me who deal with the efficent running of the service without direct contact with customers

Is that difficult to understand? "Frontline" has a much, much wider meaning than just the military

Not Orpington Council Landsurfer - we were part of the local government re organisation in 1965 and Orpington Local District Council became part of the London borough of Bromley, along with district councils of Beckenham, Chislehurst and Penge. We still stubbornly stick to our postal address of "Orpington, Kent" although we're technically London SE 19

I just made that up, 020 is dewey decimal for works on libraries and 336 the one for public finance so I guess it's sort of right.....

Libraries are ace, don't shut them. Just my deeply intellectual opinion on the current thread.

This opinion may be derived from an element of frugality, however it is also that I don't like wastefulness. If I'd have bought all the kids books, DIY repair books, holiday idea books etc etc then my house would be even more full of 'trash' than it already is.

Having said that, out of myself, the wife & four kids I think it is only me who actually visits frequently.....the wife/youths/young adults only go to please their Victorian Dad & a lot less so now that their childhood joie de vivre is morphing into teenage angst.

But I still think they should remain open. I can remember quite well the library in Erith, Kent as a kid (so it must have been fairly impressive) & my current local one in Inverness is equally inspiring. Long may they survive,

But why pay any attention to someone who actually works in local government and knows what's she's talking about in favour of someone who just clearly has an axe to grind?

And knows sweet FA about working in a Library.

I've just read this post again and realised it could be misconstrued that it was aimed at jan19,when in fact it was aimed squarely at Blackbike.
