Beethoven - banned?
Beethoven - banned?
Well, in the Commons at any rate, so it seems.
All right, we'll have to see about that*

BTW that's not the right music. They were trying to sing, whistle or hum Schillers "ode to joy" from Beethovens 9th symphony which has been adopted as the European anthem.
The supporter of brexit's should have responded with Jerusalem and invited the WI and Twickenham to accompany them.

Re: Beethoven - banned?
Well - if aggressive and arrogant verbiage like "Bring me my Bow of burning gold/Bring me my Arrows of desire/Bring me my Spear....Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand" is the stuff of present-day politics....
And before anyone chimes in with Land of Hope and Glory, may I remind them that this offering of patriotic fervour contains the words "Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set" referring to British imperialism.
Schiller, on the other hand....

Re: Beethoven - banned?
politicians need to keep their hands off music. all of it. really hurts to see everybody have a pop at ode to joy, as if formation of the european union was beethoven's idea. besides given the current climate they should be glad it isn't a 1981 dead kennedys release.
i know it's not really current, and it's not like i'm blasting out chopin, but once those guys are gone, we're responsible for their work.

I doubt many Greeks are humming the Ode to Joy at the moment.
Deutschland Uber Alles more likely.
That's the real EU anthem.
